چکیده

Fig. 2 Conflict interest statement The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest to the publication of this article. There are many types of congenital anomalies and deformities of the ribs, including developmental fusion of two or more ribs, articulation or bridge formation between two ribs, and bifid rib. These morphological anomalies and anatomical variants occur in 0.15%–0.31% of the population, are more common in females, and occur more frequently on the right side than on the left side. These anomalies are usually of little or no clinical significance [1]. A 23-year-old man presented to our radiology department for a chest plain radiography as part of a routine test. He had no complaints and a normal medical history. On the plain radiography, it appeared that he had a bony fusion between the fifth and the sixth right anterior ribs (Fig. 1). On a volume rendering three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) scan, the rib cage seemed normal (Fig. 2). There were no anomalies detected in the 3D-CT images. If there were an anomaly seen with the plain radiography, this may have been an artifact as opposed to a real image. Thus, we should always base our diagnoses on more than one image and should examine both plain radiography and CT.

Use of incentive spirometry in portable chest radiography.

PURPOSE The degree of lung inflation seen on a chest radiograph is dependent on the point during the patient's respiratory cycle at which the radiographer exposes the image receptor. Exposing the image receptor at the exact peak of inflation can be difficult because of the limited time available in which to capture the inspiratory pause. An incentive spirometer can indicate the moment of peak i...

ose and perceived image quality in chest radiography outer

Chest radiography is the most commonly performed diagnostic X-ray examination. The radiation dose to the patient for this examination is relatively low but because of its frequent use, the contribution to the collective dose is considerable. Consequently, optimization of dose and image quality offers a challenging area of research. In this article studies on dose reduction, different detector t...

Comparison of ultrasonography and radiography in diagnosis of rib fractures

PURPOSE Rib fractures are the most common skeletal thoracic injuries resulting from blunt chest trauma. Half of the rib fractures are not detected upon a precise physical evaluation and radiographs. Recently ultrasonography (USG) has been investigated to detect rib fractures. But based on literature the usefulness of USG varies widely. This study was conducted to investigate the role of USG in ...

Bone Suppression for Chest Radiographic Images

Chest radiography remains the most commonly used method for screening and diagnosing lung diseases, such as lung cancer, pneumothorax, interstitial disease, emphysema and many others. The detectability of a lung disease on a chest radiograph is affected by the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the image. High-contrast bone structures are major noise contributors that significantly reduce the SNR i...
